Siri runs the intent and speaks its dialog, without opening the app.

Overview

App Intents describes what your app can do, and what it knows about, in plain Swift. The system uses it everywhere: Shortcuts, Spotlight, widgets, Control Center, the Action button and Siri.

With App Schemas, Siri can understand your content, take actions from natural language and work with what's on screen, often without opening your app.

Siri

Answer questions and take actions from natural language.

Shortcuts

Every intent becomes an action people can automate.

Spotlight

Indexed entities show up in search, matched by meaning.

Controls and widgets

Power buttons in Control Center, the Lock Screen and the Action button.

StartWorkout.swift
import AppIntents struct StartWorkout: AppIntent { static let title: LocalizedStringResource = "Start Workout" @Parameter(title: "Minutes") var minutes: Int func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult & ProvidesDialog { try await WorkoutManager.shared.start(minutes: minutes) return .result(dialog: "Starting a \(minutes)-minute workout.") } }
