Overview

Passkeys are an industry standard from the FIDO Alliance and W3C. Each one is a key pair tied to your app or website, so there's nothing to phish or leak from a server. They sync end-to-end encrypted with iCloud Keychain and work with other password managers.

Adopt them with the Authentication Services framework. Recent releases added automatic upgrades, an account creation API and secure import and export between managers.
